São tartarugas!

Venezuela. A picture of thousands of young Arrau water turtles released on Saturday 30 April 2005 at the Orinoco River, Santa Maria del Orinoco, Venezuela. For the last 11 years, Venezuela's Scientific Development Foundation FUDECI has promoted the project to raise and release young Arrau water turtles, also known as Giant South American river turtles, into Orinoco River, where the river flows between the isolated and jungle-covered states of Apure and Bolivar. In the 19th century the number of female Arrau female turtles was estimated at two million while in the late 90's only about 200 were left. FUDECI released nearly 140,000 turtles within twelve years.
